Matt Zaba pays tribute to Gordie Howe on his new mask

Matt Zaba of the New York Rangers had seen and heard about David Gunnarsson's success paintings for keepers in the NHL, and decided he was the one to airbrush paint his next mask.

Budaj celebrates his hometown on his Olympic mask

David Gunnarsson was given the honorable assignment by Peter Budaj to create his Slovakian mask for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Peter and David discussed ideas back and forth, and out came a design on which Peter wanted to celebrate his hometown in Slovakia.

Pätzold becomes Spider-Man in goal

Dimitri Pätzold wanted Spider-Man on his mask, a great idea. David recreated the black Spider-Man mask on the hockey mask, and he did it with extreme detail work to get a unique depth.

Russian eagles on Varlamov's Olympic mask

Semyon Varlamov wanted something really Russian for his Olympic mask, and David came up with this design solution that Semyon immediately made thumbs up for. The Russian double-headed eagle is watching over the mask and spreading its wings. Very effective and direct.

Bohumil Modrý on Pavelec's Olympic mask

Ondrej Pavelec wanted to pay tribute to the Czech goalkeeper legend Bohumil Modrý on his mask for the Olympics in Vancouver. Ondrej turned to his mask painter David Gunnarsson with the glorious assignment.

Lundqvist's Olympic mask goes in same spirit as the last one, of course...

Henrik Lundqvist's mask for the Vancouver Olympic Games is a direct continuation on his success mask from the games in Turin 2006. Lundqvist was really happy with it. As you see the mask design has a strong connection to his Rangers mask created by David. Same design style and spirit.

Gustavsson's Monster Leaf rules on his Olympic mask

For Jonas Gustavsson's Toronto Maple Leafs masks David Gunnarsson created the new character The Monster Leaf, coming from his nickname The Monster and a maple leaf... The Toronto masks got really popular among the fans and of course this Monster Leaf appears also on Jonas' mask for the Olympics.

Stefan Liv pays tribute to Olympic medalists on his masks for the Vancouver games

In the Vancouver Olympics all Swedish goalkeepers will enter the ice with special painted Olympic masks by the mask artist David Gunnarsson. "It's a great honor for me to create these paintings, something that I will never forget", David comments the assignments.

Today we have the pleasure to present Stefan Liv's mask design for the Vancouver games. Stefan wanted to pay tribute to Swedish Olympic medalists on his masks, true titans that Stefan remembers from his childhood.

With headache this pirate ship was created

When David Gunnarsson created this mask design he did it on a special day. When he was to paint the pirate ship in old style oil painting look like on old oil paintings, he needed to concentrate in a different way, and that can be done with headache! So a Friday last summer with really bad lightning when David got headache, he took the chance to create this pirate ship. It got exactly the look David wanted, thanks to the headache...
