Hit by a cartoony snowball...

Washington Capitals
It was much fun to create this action-filled Winter Classic mask for Semyon Varlamov of the Washington Capitals. Varlamov has been hit by a cartoony looking snowball, right in the face, the cartoony snow goes all over the mask with cool 3-D effects... A perfect Winter Classic theme, that also is perfectly visible from a long distance.

Around this I weaved a design with elements from the Winter Classic game jersey with lots of details and effects. Check it out in the mask gallery here on the site or on Facebook. But where you always find the masks first is in the App for iPhone and Android!

Monster design for Gustavsson in silver tones

Toronto Maple Leafs
Jonas Gustavsson of the Toronto Maple Leafs, aka the Monster, continues with his monster leaf theme from his previous Toronto and Team Sweden masks, a mix of his nickname and a Toronto leaf... These successful designs are always great fun to paint!

I came up with the idea with the monster leaf last summer and Jonas digged the idea right away. Here we have created a more hardcore variant, with silver base and a more violent touch on the details. A design that breathes Toronto to a 100%.

Neuvirth's Winter Classic mask

Washington Capitals
It was very exciting to create Michal Neuvirth's Winter Classic 2011 mask. Michal and I discussed some different ideas, and out came a design that goes in the same spirit as his latest Caps mask. But here we have gone with a white base all over the mask resembling snow and ice, and on this base motifs appear in light blue snow tints. On the sides the ice is broken and the Winter Classic logo appears in a cool way behind the ice and snow.. A perfect theme for a Winter Classic mask.

The rest of the design is stylish with design elements from the Winter Classic game jersey. And just like on his previous mask we have made one American side, with the powerful American eagle and other details as the Capitol, and one Czech side with the castle from Michal's hometown in the Czech Republic and mountain motif.

Lawson's different Islanders design

New York Islanders
Nathan Lawson had a quite clear picture of how he wanted his new Islanders mask. He wanted a tractor with an old barn behind, and his dog, and also a nice yacht cruising on the waves describing New York in summer time. A very different and fun painting assignment I thought before I got started to paint this mask that really breathes New York Islanders to a 100%, and in the same time is completely unique for Nathan.

Check out Nathan Lawson's New York Islanders mask in the mask gallery or on our popular Facebook page, now "liked" by more than 4000 people...! Or in the DAVEART App for iPhone and Android of course...

Al Capone inspired Turco's new mask

Chicago Blackhawks
It was really exciting to create Marty Turco's design for Chicago's third jersey. When I created Marty's first two Chicago masks with gargoyles as Indians, another perfect idea for a Chicago theme popped up...a maffia and Al Capone theme, of course still with the gargoyles... Marty loved the idea as much as I so I started to rock with the design.

I created one gargoyle on each side, with cigars and white hats, just like Capone... And of course also a big scar all over the face like Capone, or Scarface as he also is called... One of them is holding a tomy gun, and the other a bloody baseball bat... If you have seen the awesome film The Untouchables with Robert De Niro as Al Capone, you know what Capone could do with a baseball bat...

Marty and I both loves much details, in the background you find a Chicago skyline from the 30s...and Capone's car ready for a flying start...and the gun holes on the sides of the mask are natural on a mask like this...

Check out Marty Turco's ammunition smoking Chicago Blackhawks mask design in the mask gallery or on our Facebook page, or download the brand new DAVEART App for iPhone and Android, where you can check out the latest paintings and follow both the blog and Twitter and more...

Bernier's mask for the alternate uniform

Los Angeles Kings
Jonathan Bernier wanted a mask custom designed to be used with the alternate jersey of the Los Angeles Kings. He told me that he wanted to pay tribute to the legendary LA keeper Rogie Vachon. I presented an idea for Jonathan, and since he liked it, it was just for me to get started...

On one side a layout with Vachon in action, with his unique mask and his signature in the background, all in purple tints with glistening metallic. The rest of the mask is created with a graphic look with elements from the uniform, spiced up with a roll of film spinning with cool 3-D effects, just like on Jonathan's previous masks that I have created for him.

Reimer's design looks back at the childhood

Toronto Maple Leafs
It was very exciting to create Toronto Maple Leaf James Reimer's unique mask design. When James told me what he wanted I was very eager to start. The design is a celebration of his childhood.

On one side you see children playing hockey on a pond, and in the background you see a house with light in the windows, mother and father are waiting for the children to come in from the cold. I love to create paintings with much details that tell a story. This side I created like a motif in a children's book.

The other side is a tribute to James' favorite TV show Hockey Night. I painted Cherry and MacLean in blue tints in a layout on the side with glistening stars around. Around all this I put together a Maple Leafs design with the beautiful maple leaf and graphic lines that tie the whole together, creating a truly unique design.

Check out the mask in the mask gallery here on the site or on our Facebook page, or in the DAVEART App for iPhone and Android.

Chemical disaster lab on Dex's new Pred mask

Nashville Predators
A lot of action in the laboratory on Mark Dekanich's new Nashville mask...! Dex is back on the mask of course, and he's gone crazy, he have mixed chemicals and created a badass liquid all over the mask, watch out, it looks dangerous... And scary electric bolts fly all over the mask making a mess. And in the middle of all this he's going to press on his remote too, take cover!

Dex always figures on Mark's masks, same nickname that they have. Everything created to a colorful piece dipped in maxxed 3-D effects.

Check out Mark Dekanich's Nasville Predators mask in the mask gallery, or on Facebook, or why not in our brand new DAVEART App available for both iPhone and Android.

Reaper on Climie's new design

Phoenix Coyotes
It was much fun to create the Phoenix Coyotes keeper Matt Climie's new mask design, a design that is a direct continuation of his previous design that I got the honor to paint for him in Dallas. Here I again created a nasty skull and Grim Reaper breaking through on the top of the mask, with a cloak in Phoenix colors! The rest of the design is created with a huge amount of details and graphics making it breathe Coyotes to a 100%.

Check out the mask in the gallery here on the website or on our Facebook page, or why not in the brand new DAVEART App available for both iPhone and Android!

Koskinen's new clean Islanders design

New York Islanders
Today we have the pleasure to present the New York Islanders keeper Mikko Koskinen's latest mask art. Mikko and I talked back and forth about ideas different design ideas for his new mask design. I got the idea how we could create stylish graphics with Islanders' cool logo, and graphic lines that transform into flying 3-D pennants creating a design in the design.

All together a design with strong contrasts with the color white as the magic link. Check it out in the mask gallery or on Facebook.

Continuation of Varlamov's incredibly popular mask designs

Washington Capitals
Today we have the pleasure to present the Washington Capitals talent Semyon Varlamov's new mask design. It's always so exciting to create his mask designs, and his earlier designs that I have gotten the honor to create have become enormously popular. Both Semyon and I like designs with lots of thinking behind, where you tell a story. This new design goes in same spirit as his previous designs with lots of details and color fields that are tied together with the mighty colors of the Caps. The design is both innovative and old school in a great mix.

Check out Semyon Varlamov's new Washington Capitals mask, a mask devoted to Semyon's new hometown with all American motifs, in the mask gallery or on Facebook.

A Fishman on Ellis Tampa mask

Tampa Bay Lightning
The NHL star Dan Ellis has great imagination and he always wants to tell a story on his masks. For me it's very creative to create his designs. For this mask Ellis wanted a really different Tampa design...he came up with the super cool idea to have a fish man, hunting in the ocean... A fantastic painting assignment!

I sketched a hybrid of a human and and a fish, a fish head with a human body, and a shark fin! He's a bounty hunter...! He has an awesome outfit with a harpoon driven by compressed hair on his back... Check out Dan Ellis' very unique Tampa Bay Lightning mask design in the gallery or on our Facebook page.

Henrik Lundqvist's 85th anniversary mask

New York Rangers
Today we have the great honor to present the NHL super star Henrik Lundqvist's latest creation, a mask that was really exciting for me to create. In celebration of the 85th season the New York Rangers will use a special heritage jersey in selected games this season, and of course Lundqvist will wear a special mask for these occasions. Henrik and I talked and came up with a plan on how to create this design.

The mask is painted in total sync with the unique game jersey in blue, red and beige. Obviously the Statue of Liberty just as usual shows up on one side, as well as the for Henrik's masks so characteristic bolts. The rest of the mask is painted in total harmony with the jersey, with very much detail work and 3-D effects. DAVEART Holographix FX details make the design completely unique and worthy the King of Manhattan.

Violent skull mask for Brent

Dallas Stars
Brent Krahn likes different designs in raw style, and it's so fun to change style and goal when you create the different designs. Just like last season Brent wanted a nasty skull with a cobra in gray tints. This time I created a longhorn bull skull, and around it a attacking cobra. Around this a white base with a violent black effect that covers the whole mask giving an interesting effect. The yellowish flames converge with the golden tint, and everything together create a unique look, with a unique name, Stone Rocker!

Wesslau's Columbus mask in retro style

Columbus Blue Jackets
Gustaf and I talked ideas back and fourth, and Gustaf wanted a design in same classic spirit as his latest mask in his former team Djurgården in Sweden. The design was really popular among the DIF fans. I presented this design and Gustaf really liked it. An old school design built on logos, and spiced with lots of modern 3-D effects and flashy smoke effects. Check out Gustaf Wesslau's Columbus Blue Jackets mask in the mask gallery or on Facebook!

Turco's red Gargoyle mask...

Chicago Blackhawks
Today we have the pleasure to present the latest creation for my client of many years, the NHL star Marty Turco. It's always crazy fun to paint Marty's creations with the gargoyles. These gargoyles I invented from imagination in a crazy mix of horror and cartoon, with much 3-D effects. Obviously in Indian style, and one of them with a nasty stick...

Much red tints in this design that is painted for Marty's and Chicago's red shirt, and everything tied together with strong contrasts and colors, and maxxed with 3-D effects. Check out Marty Turco's Chicago Blackhawks mask in the mask gallery or on our Facebook page!

Poulin pays tribute to legends

New York Islanders
Kevin Poulin had the genius idea to pay tribute to the two legendary Islanders players Billy Smith and Mike Bossy, and around this create a classic old school design. I made a sketch for Kevin, and since he liked it was just to get started. One side of the mask is devoted to the two legends, painted in blue tints with orange glow it really breathes Islanders, just like the rest of the design that is tied together with graphic lines and logos. Check out Kevin Poulin's New York Islanders mask in the mask galllery and on our Facebook page.

Enroth's new mask design evolved from his earlier

Buffalo Sabres
It's always a great pleasure to create Jhonas Enroth's designs. We have co-operated for many years now, ever since Jhonas' breakthrough in Sweden, and all the designs have followed a line that we have developed slightly through the years. Classic, graphic, clean and effective. The stone wall dividing the mask in two has become Jhonas' signum, and on the sides we have the team logos. All created with effectful bolts and extreme detail solutions, and with a nice 3-D touch and metallic glitter that make the design someting beyond the normal.

Mason's Lincoln design in realistic look

Columbus Blue Jackets
The NHL star Steve Mason's second design of the season just as the first one features Abraham Lincoln, but here I created him in a realistic look, in cool contrast to the first design with Abraham Lincoln in cartoon look as a super hero... Here we have switched style like a chameleon and created a quietly powerful tribute to Lincoln.

On one side I created a layout in blue tints with Lincoln, with portrait and Mount Rushmore. I also weaved in the statue which I created with brush in old school oil paint tech. The rest of the design is a speed-filled design breathing Columbus to a 100%, with extreme detail work and 3-D effects.

Orca and Moose on Läck's mixed mask

Vancouver Canucks
It's always exciting to mix two teams on the same mask, and Eddie Läck's Vancouver Canucks mask is a great example. Eddie and I talked and agreed on a cool solution where one side is devoted for Vancouver and the other for Manitoba Moose. Both sides are tied together to a whole, with lots of details and 3-D effects. Strong contrasts is the mantra for the design. Check out the design solution in the mask gallery or on Facebook!

Rinne turns into a badass Pred monster in his new mask

Nashville Predators
Holy smokes, NHL star Pekka Rinne turns into a badass Pred monster in his new mask...! This summer I came up with the idea to create the whole mask as an old mask with a Predator monster behind it... Pekka loved the idea, and I created the idea with much detail work and 3-D effects. The mask looks to have been worn in many games and has got its share of beating, with cracks and plasters... A smoking hot design that frightens the opponents.

If you dare, you can check out Pekka Rinne's Nashville Predators mask in the mask gallery, or on Facebook where you also can comment on it.

Yeti practices dance on Budaj's new Colorado mask

Colorado Avalanche
I had really fun when I painted the NHL star Peter Budaj's new Colorado Avalanche mask. I used the cool foot logo that Colorado has, and created a pattern on the mask, just like dance steps all over the mask, mr Yeti practices dance... But well, he doesn't seem to be that successful, he looks a little bit scared as he shows up on the side... I love to paint much details, and mix it with humor, just like here.

And on the backplate Peter's alter ego shows up, check out who that is in the mask gallery!

Saturday, October 23, 2010

Gustavsson's new Monster mask is here

Toronto Maple Leafs
Jonas Gustavsson of the Toronto Maple Leafs, aka the Monster, continues with his monster leaf theme from his previous Toronto and Team Sweden masks, a mix of his nickname and a Toronto leaf... These successful designs are always great fun to paint! The awesome maxxed leafs are here even more powerful, and around this I have weaved a classic Toronto design. A design that breathes Toronto to a 100%.

Action is the theme on Mannino's new Atlanta design

Atlanta Thrashers
It was much fun to create Peter Mannino's speed-filled Atlanta Thrashers mask design. A cruel monster style Thrasher bird in action on one side sets the agenda for the design, and pumps out the power that Peter plays with! On the other side a graphic design in action with the Atlanta logo with cool 3-D effects. And of course Peter's own little mascot shows up, just like on his previous masks.

Check it out in the mask gallery and on Facebook!

Lehner is Smokin´ Hot!

Ottawa Senators
Today we have the pleasure to present the new mask look of Ottawa Senators' rising star Robin Lehner. The design was named Smokin´ Hot to describe Robin as well as the design, it's literally smoking...!

Robin Lehner's Ottawa Senators mask is born out of Ottawa's logos, with a maximum of 3-D effects. The asymmetric look with different motifs on each side gives an exciting effect, where the graphic look is mixed with nice flying 3-D effects in form of the flag. Check out the mask in the mask gallery and on our facebook page.

Bernier with new powerful lion design

Los ANgeles Kings
It's always much fun to paint the NHL star Jonathan Bernier's mask creations with the watching lion in focus. His new design continues in the same spirit as the last one with the powerful lion in purple tints watching over the mask on the top. The sides features LA details and a contrast-rich lion from the alternate logo, and all together a powerful design in purple tints is created. The purple tints create a Hollywood theme, but Jonathan also wanted some beach feeling with a touch of Baywatch.

Powerful design pays tribute to Neuvirth's new and old hometowns

Washington Capitals
Washington Capitals' rising star Michal Neuvirth wanted to pay tribute to both his native hometown in the Czech Republic and his new hometown in USA on his mask. We bounced ideas back and forth and decided to devote his two hometowns one side each. His native hometown Usti Nad Labem has a famous castle called Hrad Strekov, a given motif on the mask. I painted it detailed on the side, together with a mountain landscape and the Czech flag flying around the chin of the mask.

The Washington side features an American eagle bringing power, and the Capitol and the Washington Monument. All weaved together almost like a postcard. Around the hometown motifs I painted a powerful design based on Washington's cool logo with the wings spreading over the mask, with 3-D effects and a clear link to the team uniform.

Camo in Islanders colors on DiPietro's new mask design

New York Islanders
It's always a great honor to create the NHL star Rick Dipietro's mask creations. Rick wants much details, and that's exactly what I love to paint. The design is a continuation of his previous success designs that I had the pleasure to create, and it's a tribute to his father who was helicopter pilot in the Vietnam war.

On the sides you see views of helicopters together with other details from the same theme, and in the bottom a camoflage theme created in the Islanders colors. Check out Rick DiPietro's New York Islanders mask yourself in the mask gallery and on Facebook!

Lindbäck's clean Pred design is a combo

Nashville Predators
It's always a special feeling to create a keeper's first NHL mask, and so also this time. Nashville Predators' new goalie Anders Lindbäck's new design is a classically and cleanly created Predators design that also is combined with Milwaukee Admirals. The bright base color lifts the logos that are created with much details and nice 3-D effects.

Check it out in the mask gallery and on the DAVEART Facebook page!

Bobrovsky enters NHL like a jet plane

Philadelphia Flyers
With great joy I created Sergei Bobrovsky's first NHL mask. The theme he wanted was powerful jet planes. On each side a jet plane rushes forward, on one side an American one with chosen Philly monuments down below, and on the other a Russian jet plane with Russian landmarks below.

Around all this I created a powerful Philly design with a maximum of action and effects in orange and black tints. Go check out Sergei Bobrovsky's Philadelphia Flyers mask design in the mask gallery or on Facebook. And stay ready, lots of new NHL masks will be presented onwards...

Raycroft's new design old school and top modern

Dallas Stars
It was great fun to create the NHL star Andrew Raycroft's new Dallas Stars mask creation. A design that is both old school and top modern in the layout. The design is completely built on the logos of the Dallas Stars. Strong contrasts and uncontrollable detail work give a strongly graphical design spiced up with 3-D effects and smoke effects of the most modern cut.

Take a look at Andrew's mask design in our mask gallery or on Facebook!

Jeremy Smith's new mask a continuation of last year's success

Nashville Predators
Jeremy Smith's different mask design made big success last year and now we present the continuation. The mask features a pirate ship theme, created with old school oil paint tech like an old painting, and created inside the Admirals logo. A different and exciting design solution.

The rest of the design is stylish and clear with strong contrasts, yellow fire effects and Predators logos. Check out Jeremy Smith's Nashville Predators mask in the mask gallery and on our so popular Facebook page.

Cruel skulls in a new way on Karlsson's new Calgary Flames mask

Calgary Flames
Henrik and I talked about his new mask design and came to the conclusion that we wanted to make something really violent, that would allude to flames, but also be something new. The result is a violent creation with the logo in focus and team graphics around, and with nasty flame effects that melt together with cruel skulls...

Holtby's Caps mask with furious eagle in action

Washington Capitals
Another NHL mask to present! This time it's a design with a classic Caps theme featuring an eagle, and with lots of action! The eagle breaks out of Braden's icy mask with cool 3-D effects and lots of details. A design that delivers both in close-up and from a long distance.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

The Godfather on Svedberg's Brynäs mask

Brynäs IF
After Niklas Svedberg had signed with the Swedish elite league team Brynäs, we talked about how to create the mask design for his new team. Niklas wanted a classic and clear Brynäs design with the club's beautiful colors and the characteristic yellow-red lines, spiced up with a special dude, the Godfather. I painted him on one of the sides with old school oil paint tech, and on the chin the number is also strongly inspired by the same dude...

Markström's Florida mask teared apart by a panther...

Florida Panthers
Time to present the super talent Jacob Markström's new Florida Panthers mask! Since this is his first NHL mask, it was special for me to create it. The design is based on Florida's cool logos, placed asymmetric on the mask a cool effect is achieved when the mask is turned from side to side. Spiced up with a maximum of 3-D effects, and with bright tints and strong contrasts...

Go to the mask gallery or Facebook to check out Jacob Markström's Florida Panthers mask, that is being teared apart by, yeah exactly, a panther...

Broad Street Bullies on Leighton's new Flyers mask

Philadelphia Flyers
When the NHL star Mike Leighton told me what kind of design he wanted I thought it would be a dream design to create. A tribute design to the legendary Broad Street Bullies! Perfect for a Flyers mask!

A graphic classic layout, spiced up with extremely much detail work and portraits weaved in to the graphics in different colors. Dave Schultz is fighting, what else, and Bobby Clarke is showing his well-known toothless grin... And the mask is painted as it has gotten a real beating!
