The Monsters Hall Of Fame…

Jonas ”The Monster” Gustavsson´s new Detroit Red Wings mask is all about monsters, or more precise, it is the The Monsters Hall Of Fame… A perfect theme for a mask when your nickname is The Monster :)

The NHL mask is created in a horror style with lots of scary effects… and among them you will find all the classic monsters from our history… Can you find them all? Beware…. there is Frankenstein´s monster, zombies, the Loch Ness monster, Dracula, The Mummy, Bigfoot, werewolves, Meduza…. It is truly the Monsters Hall Of Fame….

I love to paint and draw in different techniques, and me and Jonas wanted these monsters to have a sketchy old school style, so all monsters are created with an old school lead pencil…. so it reminds of old school horror book drawings…. I draw with lead pencils every day :)

Gustavsson's Olympic mask

It is with a great joy we present Jonas Gustavsson's Olympic mask.

The design is a tribute to land of Sweden and the colors of yellow and blue. The design is inspired by the powerful Swedish Olympic jersey.

On a distance it is a clean design, and when you come closer the mask enters a new dimension of details.

I love to use all the #DAVEART trademark effects and create new unique designs day in day out.

Gustavsson´s Winter Classic mask

It is with a great joy we present Jonas Gustavsson´s latest Detroit Red Wings mask for the Winter Classic 2014 game.

It was so exciting to create this very unique #NHL piece. The design is created in a very old school style, loaded with the history of #DetroitRedWings. I just love to paint and create in old school style.

The design is created so it works in 360 degrees and both on a distance as up close, and in total sync with Red Wings Winter Classic uniform.

And just as usual it is loaded with extreme detail work, just what I love to paint, and all the #DAVEART trademark effects… :)

I want to thank for the opportunity to paint this mask. I am so proud to be your personal painter Jonas, I remember when I painted your first mask Jonas back in the 90s :) After that is has been very many Monster masks :)

Gustavsson´s mask transformed into a monster truck… a swedish Volvo Amazon

I can tell you this, I had very fun when I created and painted this action packed creature and transformed Jonas "Monster" Gustavsson´s new Detroit Red Wings mask into a Monster truck. And check it out closely, it is a swedish monster truck, the car is the swedish classic Volvo Amazon!

Me and Jonas have been working for so many, many years, more than a decade, and it´s always such a pleasure. I painted Jonas´masks since he was a kid back in the 90´s! Love to be your personal artist Jonas!

Last year we transformed Jonas´s #Detroit #RedWings mask into a Monster Hot rod, and this year his #NHL mask is transformed into a monster truck. Perfect combo when your nickname is #Monster and your play in the motor city :)

I came up with and created this idea back in the 90´s when I was a teenager. I just love to come up with new ideas every day, and I love to draw. I save all my drawings in my huge archive, filled with thousands and thousands of drawings. Now I just finalized my concept drawings :)

As usual it is totally loaded with details to be discovered both on the mask as on the backplate. I just love details, some stuff you can only see when you look at it live because it is created with #metallicfx. And for sure you will find all the other #DAVEART trademark effects there :)

Jonas´ mask is transformed into a Monster hot rod

Today we have the pleasure to present the new mask for the new Detroit Red Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson! The design was very, very funny to do! A mask in a total new style! I love to always do new stuff.

Since Jonas is the Monster, and Detroit is the motor city, we transformed the mask into a living monster hot rod! So many details all over the mask, the windscreen is the eyes in the forehead, and the mouth on the bumper on the chin, and Red Wings paint job on the hood...and a big bad V8 engine with big exhaust pipes on the sides...

In the backgrund the Detroit skyline, and the traffic light is showing green, ready…gooo! Burnout...

It is so much fun to work with Jonas, we have made maaaaany masks together since Jonas was a kid back in the 90s. Love to work with you Jonas!

The Monster Rocker mask

I have painted for the Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson since he was a kid. It is an honor for me to follow a goalie through his career and evolve the mask designs from year to year.

I remember one of the first masks I painted for a young Jonas when he played in AIK in Sweden, it was a design with badass rats guarding a castle. AIK is called the rats, and they have a castle in the logo. Then later when Jonas played in Färjestad we started to do more monster styled designs, I created an octopus styled monster he used on a couple of masks during his time in Färjestad.

Then when Jonas moved to Toronto I came up with the idea how to mix a leaf with a monster cause of his nickname. Jonas liked my sketches and after that it has been many Monster leaf masks... I´m very proud to paint for Jonas and show it to the fantastic fans of the Maple Leafs.

This design idea I came up with last spring, with the monster leaf super big all over the mask, so Jonas becomes a monster leaf with this on his head...watch out! Jonas also wanted a tribute to the fantastic town of Toronto, so in the background I created the Toronto skyline with the CN Tower. I´ve been in the tower myself to do research... :)

Monster design for Gustavsson in silver tones

Jonas Gustavsson of the Toronto Maple Leafs, aka the Monster, continues with his monster leaf theme from his previous Toronto and Team Sweden masks, a mix of his nickname and a Toronto leaf... These successful designs are always great fun to paint!

I came up with the idea with the monster leaf last summer and Jonas digged the idea right away. Here we have created a more hardcore variant, with silver base and a more violent touch on the details. A design that breathes Toronto to a 100%.
