Lehtonen's new mask look a tribute to Texas

Dallas Stars

Today we have the honor to present Kari Lehtonen's new Dallas Stars mask. It goes in the same style as his previous designs that I have created for him, with lots and lots of details in different styles, and everything connected to one theme.

The design is what I call a story teller design, and is a tribute to the state of Texas. On the side the Dallas Stars logo as a Texas map, and I created it as a real map, looking a bit old and used with some of the edges curved. Around that a very detailed theme of Texas, with a strong powerful longhorn bull in focus on the other side. You also find a belt buckle, cactus landscape, the Texas Star Ferris wheel, oil pumps and much more.

It was very exciting to create this design with a lot of white to give it an old school feeling. I used a lot of different painting techniques.

Wyatt Earp theme on Lehtonen's new mask

Dallas Stars
I love western movies, and when Kari Lehtonen of the Dallas Stars told me he wanted a theme with Wyatt Earp and the movie Tombstone, well, then it couldn't be much more fun and exciting. I have seen the movie many times, and I came up with a couple of ideas that Kari liked. In the movie Wyatt says the quote that has given the mask its name, and just that scene is played before the games in American Airlines Center. So cool.

I created the painting in black, white and gold. I recreated Wyatt Earp, played by one of my favs Kurt Russell, on one side and his buddy Doc Holiday, played by Val Kilmer, on the other side. The holster on one side was a special wish from Kari, and it's an exact reproduction of Holiday's holster in the movie.

I composed an exciting layout with views and details, with Wyatt's other friends and Dallas Stars graphics in the above mentioned colors, making it melt together to a 100%, and the title for sure shows what it's all about... The color scheme is consistent on the whole mask, even the Texas flag on the chin follows it.

Chuck Norris rocks in TX

Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars star keeper Kari Lehtonen always wants cool stuff on his masks, which makes them extra fun to paint. We discussed ideas back and forth, when Chuck Norris came up as a bolt from the blue! What could be better when you play for the Dallas Stars? And could it be more cool?!

Clint Eastwood rules on Lehtonen's new Dallas mask

Dallas Stars
Can you have a more cool theme than Clint Eastwood on a hockeymask? The answer is no. Kari wanted cowboy theme on his new Dallas mask, and out of David's and Kari's discussions this design idea came.

The whole design is created as an old fashion film poster for a cowboy film. On one side we see Mr Eastwood motifs created in sepia look and golden tints, one with a young Clint and one with a slightly older. The design is created with a fantastic depth, strongly inspired by Eastwood's films, in particular the great film Unforgiven.
