Irving's mask is torn apart...

Calgary Flames

Leland Irving mask has been totally torn apart by a mad grizzly, and the old school Calgary Flames mask is totally ripped into pieces...!

The design is a tribute to Leland's minor hockey team Swan Hills Grizzlies, I had so fun when I created it :-)

I love to create these so called 2 in 1 designs. Old school classic base connected with the Flames uniform, and then the action rocks when the grizzly comes out, doing what he does the best! And hey yea if you look close there on the side in the background you see the grizzly standing... And Just as usual, lots and lots of details and special FX. I just love to go crazy with the details :-)

Thanks Leland, so proud to be your painter.

You are all welcome to check out the mask in the mask gallery, in the App or on our Facebook page.

Thank you all for your interest in my painting.

A guardian dragon on Irving´s new Flames mask

Calgary Flames

A guardian dragon fits perfect on a mask for a goalie guarding the net. The Calgary Flames keeper Leland Irving had such a cool classic idea. I created the dragon winding around the mask, no puck wanna go there... The whole design is painted in a very old school style, white base, and the dragon is inspired from old school tattoo style. The flames around the mask and the script on the chin are also very old school.

Dragons are a perfect theme on a mask. Check out Leland´s last mask on the site. This new dragon I created in a totally different style compared to the previous. I love to change paint styles from day to day when I paint, depending on what style and feeling the designs needs. When I made the early sketches for this one I was very inspired by old school tattoo styles.

This asymmetric winding design with so different sides gives a cool effect when the mask is turn side to side. Just as usual it is painted with extreme details to be discovered all over the mask, and DAVEART Holographix FX gives sweet 3-D effects, spiced with metallic glitter and golden fadings.

Among the details I also painted a sky on the side with a bomber plane flying, that is a tribute to Leland´s uncle that passed away this summer. Welcome to check out Leland Irving´s Calgary Flames mask , and thank you for your interest.

Dragon war on Irving’s mask

Calgary Flames
Leland Irving had a very cool idea for his new mask, and I was very happy when he contacted me to get it done. He wanted a tribute design to one of his favorite mask designs from his childhood, that is McLean's classic design from the mid 90s. This design is inspired by McLean's design with the checkered pattern on the top, and red, black and silver base, and a dragon on each side. But we turned up the heat, big time, and created this mix of old school with top modern effects!

From a long distance this design makes perfect thanks to the distinct color combinations and strong contrasts in the basic design, but when you check it out more close a new world of details and story telling is opened!

On each side I created a close-up of a dragon, really cocky...and with claws like Wolverine... One of them is fighting with a hockey stick, and is enjoying a big cigar...as a dragon would need extra smoke... They fight against the big nasty dragons flying over the mountains in the background, now you know why the mask design is named Dragon War! Full of action! There's smoke from the lava around them, and speaking of that, watch out! On one side the volcano is about to erupt, it's coming smoke from it!

The rest of the design is created in old school spirit. On the chin a knights pennant with the name is flying in the wind. With extremely much detail work and 3-D effects this design is an experience in detail richness.
